How the Colosseum Evening Tour Works

Four steps from Trajan's Column to the attic galleries — two hours as the day's crowds thin out.

  1. Meet at Trajan's Column

Your tour coordinator meets the group on the platform directly in front of Trajan's Column, on Via dei Fori Imperiali next to Piazza Venezia — look for the blue City Wonders polo or jacket. Bring your mobile voucher and photo ID: every participant is named on the Colosseum ticket, and entry is refused if the name does not match.

  2. Walk the Imperial Forums

Your guide leads you along Via dei Fori Imperiali with a photo stop at the Roman Forum, pointing out the temples, arches and the stories of the Vestal Virgins as the light drops. Roughly fifteen minutes at the Forum viewpoint, easy pace, with the city lights coming up behind you.

  3. Enter the Colosseum on a Reserved Evening Slot

Your group enters on a reserved evening entrance rather than queueing at the box office. Inside, dedicated audio headsets keep you with the guide as you work through the monument's levels — including centuries-old graffiti still legible on the walls. Choose your group size at booking: 10, 15 or 25 participants.

  4. Finish in the Attic Galleries

The tour finishes on the upper levels — the attic, floors three to five, reopened to guided visitors in 2024 — looking down the length of the arena and out over Rome as it lights up. If you selected the Arena Floor upgrade at booking, you also walk the arena itself. Total duration 2 hours, with free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

What Guests Say About the Colosseum Evening Tour

5/5 from 876 verified guests

"We enjoyed our tour with Carlos. He answered our questions and started our tour right on time. He took his time with our group and helped our older folks out by showing where the elevator was and waiting for someone who needed the bathroom. He helped us easily make it through all the checkpoints with our ids and tickets. He was a wealth of information about the history of the Colosseum and even shared with us Photos of Gladiators. I came away with so much knowledge and realized the movies have been lying to me. Thank you Carlos for a wonderful tour. We appreciate you."

"Sam was a wonderful tour guide! We really appreciated his historical knowledge, enthusiasm, and willingness to answer questions and let us know when there are historical details up for debate. Beautiful to see the Colosseum at sunset!"

Colleen United States

"Fabio (and Rufus) were excellent guides! We learned interesting facts that helped us understand the history and architecture. He was very personable, knowing everyone’s name from the meeting point throughout the tour, never missing a name! Fabio had a great personality and sense of humor too. We were never rushed, and received great instructions, The views were amazing as the sun went down. It was very hot so I’m glad we chose the evening tour. Being in a small group was very convenient. Fabio seemed to know how to navigate things so we weren’t mixed with larger groups, which allowed us more time in premium spots. Thank you for this great experience!"

"My friend dropped her ticket and wasn’t allowed to continue the tour into the colosseum, not their fault just thought a contingency plan would have been great. Like to have the tickets on their device."
